AutumnOctober 6, 2011
I am a huge fan of the autumn seasons; blackberries, gorgeous vibrant colours, crisp weather, shorter evenings, the smell of open fires all invoke that autumn feeling. I love to make some changes in my home to celebrate each season. It doesn’t cost a lot and chances are most people have a lot of the items in their house.
When considering a colour scheme in your home, burnt golds and oranges, luxurious reds and rustic browns are just a few of the warm inviting shades we associate with Autumn. Beautiful rich brown shades such as Tempting, Chocolate Comtesse and Mocha are the perfect shades to incorporate an autumn inspired theme in your home. When choosing shades for your bedroom you should opt for more relaxing shades such as Faithful, or even Liqueur from the Crown Collection.
Yellow or burnt orange tones can be incorporated nicely into your kitchen. Yellow Dark, Hot Sun, Amber Glow or Coral or will create a rustic autumn look. The living room is the perfect place to opt for rich gold shades like Old Gold, Gold Dusk or Egyptian Sand from Crown. Living rooms can be given an elegant touch by painting one feature wall in a gold shade while leaving the others an off-white tone such as Stone White or Cotton Field. Make use of harvest colours and paint a wall red to make a space feel warmer and more vibrant. You can paint a dining room or kitchen area red, and compliment the space with ivory and brown accents. English Fire, Crimson Kiss and Fireside will all work perfect to create a rustic autumn look.
While your choice of paint is important, your choice of accessories and fabrics are also crucial to complete the look. Fabric choices will play a key role in your design. Change your throws, pillows and blankets in the living room and other areas. You may have furniture that isn’t in an autumn shade but don’t worry; you can place brown throw pillows or crocheted afghans on it to add to the autumn theme. Just be sure to select a tone that fits with the overall colour scheme. Likewise, you may want to add an autumn-colored bedspread to your bed. Change cushion covers to textured options such as wool and faux fur in rich autumnal colours. Bring out cozy throws made from similar textured material and place some candles on available surfaces.
Swap towel and bath mats for more autumnal options in your bathroom. Cushions and towels are a very easy way of introducing autumn colours into your interiors so it would be well worth investing in cushion covers for the different seasons. Cushion covers in textured fabrics such as velvet, wool or bulky knits work very well.
Be creative and you’ll find many neat little ways of bringing these great shades into your house.
Happy Decorating,
