Awash with style

Awash with style

August 24, 2010
One of the most frequently used rooms in most homes is the bathroom. It is important to ensure that you make the most of your bathroom space no matter what the size, be it an en-suite, shower room or toilet. Your bathroom can be a great place to relax and take time out so it is essential that it compliments your style as a part of your home.

I have chosen three bathroom styles to discuss for the upcoming season and you can take elements from each to integrate into your own bathroom. Remember if painting a bathroom, always use paint suitable for bathrooms such as Crown’s Kitchen & Bathroom emulsion.

Romantic Bathroom

This style encompasses luxury and harmony through the use of colour. Start off by using light shades such as Crown’s Bathroom Emulsion in Simple Lilac or Soap Stream on the walls. Why not try and incorporate off-white tones by painting one wall in a lilac colour and using shades such as Stone White or Mimosa to paint the other three walls.

These colours can also be introduced into room features such as towels and cupboards. Remember to use sensual accessories like candles, flowers, and draping floor length curtains to help create a romantic atmosphere. Bejewelled or vintage mirrors and chandeliers are also suited for this trend.

Fresh Bathroom

Gleaming blues and greens lend themselves perfectly to decorating bathrooms and en-suites. These colour schemes create a fresh, clean space that is perfect for a family bathroom. Make sure to choose a Crown shade of paint that will suit your lifestyle. If blue is your colour of choice why not try Icelandic Blue or Blue Note. If you prefer greens why not try Palest Green or Apple mist which is in a similar spectrum to the blue shade mentioned.

This bathroom trend is no fuss and minimalist by nature, so don’t overcomplicate the room with too many accessories. Allow as much light into the room as possible with large mirrors and glass features. Keep the lines in the room simple and sharp by using white tiles, furniture and accessories.

Natural Organic Bathroom

This trend is all about incorporating the earth’s natural elements into your bathroom. Think wood features, organic colours such as greens and browns as well as bright airy spaces. With this trend it is often best to pick a feature to focus your bathroom around. If you have a big room why not use a large potted plant as your feature. In a small bathroom or en-suite the use of colour and light can also create the same effect.

Accessories such as wicker clothes baskets or wooden toothbrush/soap holders are a great way to include organic elements. Plants are also an easy way to add a natural feel to your room.

Happy decorating!
