Brightest whitest bedroomDecember 13, 2011
I don’t know about you, but my least favourite thing about winter is the dark, short days and with the shortest day of the year still ahead of us things aren’t set to lighten up for a while yet. Waking up at 7am to darkness outside can be a depressing start to the day so why not lighten up your bedroom and make the most of the indoor lighting when daylight hours are at the minimum?
Small changes can have a big impact and painting your bedroom a lighter shade can be just the thing to brighten up the room and make it feel and look bigger. Check out some light and neutral shades from Crown like Mascarpone, White Light and Sail White. Crown’s Indulgence range is a fantastic paint to work with in your bedroom. The luxury Matt Emulsion is packed with tiny microspheres that make the paint super rich, thick and creamy so the soft velvety matt shade will glide on to your walls. Contrast the warmer white shade of Mascarpone and White Light with Pure Brilliant White on your ceiling and skirting boards for maximum impact.
Advance your bright white theme by selecting suitable furniture in white or cream shades. You may want to consider painting existing furniture like dressing tables, wardrobes and bedside lockers if budget constraints are an issue. Thankfully, this couldn’t be easier with Crown’s Grip Extreme. Grip Extreme eliminates the need for sanding which is a relief for most home decorators. You just need to make sure that the furniture to be painted is clean and dry. Apply the Grip Extreme and leave it to dry, then apply your top coat in Crown Satin, Gloss or Eggshell which is ideal for interior wood.
Once your room is painted a brighter shade, it will instantly feel bigger and less cluttered. The next thing to consider then is flooring and as the brighter shades can make a room feel cooler, a warm fluffy carpet or large rug will compliment it perfectly. Lighting is imperative to the soothing atmosphere of any bedroom and while ladies will require practical lighting for make up application and hair styling, you should also have the ability to romanticise and relax your bedroom décor, you can achieve this easily through dimmer switches and lavender scented candles.
Lightly coloured soft furnishings will continue the theme in your bedroom but you can play around with different colours here. Consider introducing some red, green or blue shades in the form of throws, blankets and pillow cases. This will liven up your bedroom without creating colour clutter. Your bed linen should be simple yet luxurious and comfortable as this will add warmth and texture to your newly decorated bedroom.
Complete the look by framing some of your favourite art or photos and hanging them on the walls. According to Feng Shui experts, we should avoid sad or lonely images being depicted in our bedrooms as it can affect our sleeping patterns so choose your happiest images and frame them in black and white frames to create some contrast in the room.
So now that your newly decorated bedroom is complete, you can have a spring in your step, even when winter rages outside!
Happy decorating!
