Floral Prints Come into Bloom

February 22, 2010
Irish homes will be getting flowery indoors because from spring 2010 onwards floral designs are back in bloom. Now I’m not talking about traditional old fashioned floral prints, I’m thinking big, bold, contemporary floral patterns.

Your walls are the most important place to begin and don’t panic – I’m not suggesting you purchase wall to wall floral paper. You should keep things simple by choosing a neutral shade on your walls as this will give you the opportunity to update your accessories with ease. This is where strong and vibrant floral designs can fit in perfectly and being bold is beautiful!

The Crown trends palettes for 2010 is the perfect place to start looking for inspiration. Simple Beauty is what you need to create a calming space with natural shades of soft beiges. The key is to strip back and focus on the natural beauty.

St. Germaine is another sophisticated trend from Crown for 2010, filled with classic timeless shades and provides great inspiration when you want to be bold on accessorise and bring these classic shades to life.

Floral prints can be used to inject some life and character into a home where neutral colours are dominant. Contemporary and modern interiors can opt for big and bold with vibrant floral bloom. Marks and Spencers and Heatons have a great selection of textured floral cushions that are definitely worth a look and at very reasonable price points.

Interior designers are recommending you go for bigger floral patterns on large areas such as curtains or rugs and to use smaller patterns on cushions, bed throws and dining chairs. Choose cushions in different fabrics, shapes and textures to add interest and contrast.

My personal favourites are Japanese oriental floral as they are inherently simple in their own form and give a vibrant elegant image. The palette for oriental floral designs is strong vibrant colours such as burgundy, reds and purples and is usually contrasted with neutral shades.

Remember not to add too many dissimilar styles of floral designs to the space as this will overpower the overall look.

Happy decorating!!
