Hanging Pictures

Hanging Pictures

February 14, 2010
With the picturesque white Christmas we had this year I can’t think of a better way to showcase all the beautiful pictures I can only image people took. I absolutely love visiting my friends and family and learning the stories behind the pictures hanging in their home.

My top tip for hanging pictures or photos on a wall is to be careful not to hang them too high. There is a simple skill to positioning art properly and that is to hang it just above eye level.

If you want to hang a group of pictures on one particular wall the best way to do this is to work up, then down and out from the central point.

I always recommend using frames that are different sizes and shapes but complement one another. Ikea has a great selection that you may like to take a look at here.

Alternatively if you want to go for high quality picture frames that are built to suit specific requirements then I recommend contacting your nearest picture framing service.

People often forget about existing colour schemes on their walls when picking frames for a particular space. The wall acts as a backdrop for your pictures and should add a little more personality to the collection of pictures. A great tip to remember is that you can always paint a picture or photo frame so it complements your wall colour scheme.

It is also important to consider the lighting in a room in order to emphasise your arrangement. Be careful of lighting that is bright as it may produce an unnecessary glare.

Blank canvas walls throughout your home could prompt you to create something uniquely personal. Items like old family photos, antique fabrics or any other treasures you have collected can now become interesting works of art.

The hallway or landing is an open invitation to hang pictures. Unlike a living room or bedroom, there’s little furniture or accessories around for pictures to clash with. It makes an ideal location for themed collections of photographs or other memorabilia.

They can make a very strong statement and be regularly enjoyed because they are contained in a small space.

Don’t leave your family snaps stuck in a digital camera or stuffed in a family album! Put them on display to add charm and character to your home.

Happy decorating,
Neville
