Introducing the Colour Yellow into your HomeMarch 26, 2010
One the colour chart yellow can fall into three main groups, soft pale shades which are light and restful and are ideal for creating a relaxed atmosphere. Fresh, bright yellows are uplifting and encourage communication which can be a great way to lift the mood in small spaces. Mellow gold’s and muted ochre’s are radiant shades and are a perfect choice for living rooms.
Yellow works in just about any room in your home depending on the shade or tone you choose. Be inspired by Crown’s New Mexico Trend which takes its cue from the dazzling midday sun. Hot Sun from Crown Paints is a sun drenched yellow which will help you create a stunning and bright atmosphere. You can be really adventurous by painting your kitchen or bathroom in a warm yellow such as Energise or Lemon Squash.
Yellow is ideal to use in playrooms or study areas as it helps keep the mind flowing. It focuses on memory and clear thinking, decision making and good judgment. It is associated with the intellectual side of the mind and the expression of thoughts. It also helps with organisation, assimilation of new ideas and the ability to see different points of view. Sunrise or Primrose Yellow would be a great choice for this type of space and can be combined with a multitude of colours such as pink, green, purple and even turquoise.
Strong yellow is not to everyone’s liking but it can be introduced into your home in the most subtle ways without becoming too overpowering. Subtle yellows such as Gentle Yellow and Beach House from Crown are soft, sun faded tones which evoke a sense of familiarity and comfort. These shades are ideal for sun dappled bedrooms or living rooms. Matched with soft pastel colours of olive green, worn pinks and creams create a perfect ambience for relaxation.
You can also introduce yellow through your furnishings and fixtures by adding a print shower curtain in your bathroom or in your sitting room add a sofa cover or a rug that features a yellow pattern. You can also add flower arrangements in your kitchen or dining room – yellow tulips are just fabulous this time of year and can fill a room with positive energy.
I hope these tips have convinced you there is a shade of yellow to suit everyone’s taste and personality.
Happy decorating
