It's not just a wall...April 14, 2011
There are so many options available to you when you are looking to decorate a room in your home, sometimes it can be hard to know where to start! My advice to those of you who feel a little intimidated by the task ahead is to take a step back to really look at the room and the walls you want to paint. The closer you look the more you will realise, it’s not just a wall, it’s a canvas! When decorating a space you should always try to bring as much of yourself to the room as possible, think about what you really like to do and what the room will be used for. Some of the most successful designs in people’s homes are those that have taken inspiration from their hobbies or memorable moments in their life. Inspiration can come from any number of aspects. Pick up a few Crown Colour cards from your local stockist and bring them home with you, take a look at the colours and see if any of them spark an emotion or memory. The result is the colour that should form the foundation of your room design. If you have a piece of clothing or memento that has a lot of special memories, you can bring this item into one of the larger Crown Paints stockists and ask them to colour match the item. This is the ideal way to have the ultimate personal colour and design in your house. Sometimes the colour that enacts a response from us may not be suitable for the room we had in mind, but don’t give up hope just yet! For example, if the Red Hot paint colour reminds you of a treasured trip to China you can use the subdued shade, lulu as the main colour in your room and enhance with Chinese themed accessories. Children’s rooms are areas of great expression and personality. You can use your children’s favourite pastimes to create a room that really reflects their character. Look to bright, youthful shades such as Sea Spirit and Soft Lime to get your creative juices really flowing. Involving your child can yield some exciting ideas and is an opportunity to get them painting and having fun in their own room straight away. If you are still unsure about what colours will truly work in your home, start afresh and paint the room a combination of neutral shades such as Mimosa and Stone White. Sometimes a basic canvas can be a room’s greatest asset. Look to a favourite piece of artwork or even a customised stencil to adorn the wall and create a unique focal point in the room. Use smaller panels or blocks to add colour and texture with paint to the room. So there you have it, I hope this advice helps you create a room that is truly personal to you and your family.
