Keeping it organic...

July 28, 2010

‘Organic’ has definitely become the buzzword of the last decade and it is fast making its way on to the walls and interiors of your home. Organic is all about getting back to nature and is inspired by the world around us so take inspiration from fields, trees, the ocean and the sky.  Yellows, sky blues or rich earthy tones such as brown and green will help you achieve this au naturel look.

If you want to go for an organic look in your home the Designer Collection from Crown is a great place to start. In this you will find our Designer Organic Collection which includes the natural cream and beige tones of Warm Organic, and Soft Organic. For a richer look and feel why not try Deep Organic. This rich earthy colour looks great in a living room as the accent colour on a feature wall, ceiling or skirting and why not team it with Warm Organic and Soft Organic on the walls. When these shades are combined with each other they can infuse any space with character and atmosphere.

For a brighter look, take inspiration from the outdoors with the warm yellow tones of Organic Honey or the cooler tones of Organic Mustard.  For blue skies indoors, why not try Elegant Scent.

Organic interiors require natural light so choose lightweight curtains and blinds. For indoor lighting, opt for lighting which complements the natural décor such as wooden lamps with linen shades. When it comes to furnishings and accessories, again natural textures and fabrics are key. Sustainable woods, natural stone, bamboo or earthenware pottery will add to the overall organic feel.

Relaxing shades such as  Mellow Sage or Mellow Green look great in a hallway. These will set the scene for the organic theme running through the rest of the house. They are also relaxing colours and will add a welcoming feel to your home.

For an organic bedroom team a soft inviting shade such as Soft Organic on the walls with a warm beige such as Potato Cake on the ceiling.  Similarly, Warm Organic or Cream Silk will also work well and will create a calming effect in the evenings.  Complete the look with stylish bed linen in a warm brown or soft cream colour.

Happy decorating!!
