Moroccan MagicAugust 11, 2010
Many of us have had to sacrifice holidaying abroad this year and settle for the unpredictable Irish summer weather. So if the changeable weather is getting you down, don’t panic, we have the perfect way to brighten up your summer days by letting the Moroccan coast into your home. Moroccan décor is a heady mix of east meets west and a mishmash of styles and influences from France, Spain, Africa, and Persia. This results in a unique and inspirational style which is vibrant, and welcoming. Moroccan interiors is all about colour so think golden desert sands, vibrant sea blues and greens and the burnt oranges and reds of a Moroccan sunset. Crown has the most fabulous colours that will help you create the perfect Moroccan haven in your own home.
To bring this exotic style to your living room, opt for soft inviting shades such as Egyptian Sand or Classic Sand from the Crown colour card Accessorise with a mosaic coffee table and colourful embroidered silk cushions or throws. Capture the exotic romantic atmosphere of Morocco and incorporate this into your bedroom. Choose warm rich colours such as red, yellow or dusky orange to make your bedroom fiery and inviting. Elegant Matte from the Crown Classic Collection or Amber Glow and Terracotta Glow from the Crown colour card are just a few of my favourites for creating this look. Paint your ceiling the same colour as your walls or try a shade from the same family of colours. Complement this look by adding some Moroccan style lanterns or cinnamon, nutmeg or saffron scented candles. A heavily patterned colourful rug and some stacked cushions on the floor with really enhance this look. Bathrooms are one of the most important rooms in a Moroccan home which is apparent by the widespread popularity of spas and public baths in Morocco, Turkey and many Middle Eastern countries. To create a bathroom in this style, look at warm sunny colours such as Siesta Sun or Hot Sun from the Crown colour card and finish off with aqua tiles with a mosaic border. So this summer if you want to forget the rain and grey skies, capture the essence of Morocco and relax in your Arabian dream home. Happy decorating! Neville
