New DirectionJanuary 26, 2012
I’m taking a new direction this week with a further look into Crown’s Colour Influences for Spring/Summer 2012. I hope you enjoyed last week’s look at Modern Nostalgia and our insights into the palette. I think you will agree that these new influences are exciting and fresh, a great way to start 2012.
New Direction is a palette filled with contradictory combinations: the natural with the man-made and the industrial with the organic – perfect for instigating a new direction in private and public spaces.
The 1980’s inspired strident shades stand alongside the natural world in a creative combination of colours and textures that are bold but balanced. Neutral tones and neon shades sit mischievously together in this palette and work to expose and embrace the nuts and bolts of construction.
There are a range of shades from this palette that are applicable to most suburban homes and for me that was the most exciting thing about it. It celebrates classic interiors while dragging them kicking and screaming into the future! Outdoor shades like Sadolin’s Summer Kiss are perfect for adding a splash of colour to your back garden while interior shades like Cheeky Wink, even as a feature wall, can add a shock of pink to the inside of your home. Muted tones are brought to life in this palette through contrast and shades such as Wheatgrass and Sandtex’s Slate Roof serve to illuminate the more radiant shades.
Colour is a very personal choice and it’s important to remember that when choosing to redecorate the exterior or interior of your home. It’s all about individuality and what’s personal to you.
Happy decorating,
Neville
