Pre Christmas decoration

November 4, 2011
With just over eight weeks to Christmas, it’s nearly time again to get into the festive spirit! From office parties to family events it certainly is a busy time and so we all want to have a beautifully decorated home to come home to after these busy periods.

The build up to Christmas is such a wonderful time and it’s always important to put the focus around spending time with our families and loved ones during this special season. A great way to start this off is by decorating your home as a family and setting the perfect backdrop ready for those all important Christmas decorations.

The room we spend most of our time in during the Christmas period is in the living room and if we are lucky, in front of an open fire. The Crown Colourmix Classic Collection has a wonderful choice of classic shades to consider if you want to give the room a makeover. Elegant Scent or Elegant Gown are two shades I think would be great in achieving a sophisticated living room. Other shades from the Crown colourcard that you might consider are Soft Khaki, Apple Mist and Open Air. Shades of blue / green are colours are known for their soothing qualities and can lend a relaxing atmosphere to any space.
Warm sensual shades are also a good choice for your living room as it will help create an inviting atmosphere that you will enjoy spending time in. Shades such as Tiramisu and Avantgarde from Crown’s Indulgence range will help your room appear warmer and more inviting. The luxury matt emulsion gives a gorgeous warm texture to the finish.

To create a focal point in your room why not choose a separate shade for your chimney breast wall as it will add real character to the space. Deep Red from my Designer Depth Collection or Crimson Kiss will make a stunning statement and will work wonderfully with the beige shades already recommended.
The type of flooring you choose for a living room space can be really important. Wood flooring is amazing and comes in many varieties and is extremely versatile. I do find that if you are planning on having a natural Christmas tree a wooden floor can add to the natural look of a room and those pine needles are much easier to clean up! To add to the comfort of the room, a large deep pile rug will really cosy things up.

Lighting is the perfect way to set the mood. Think about recessed or track lighting which will give a neater look to this space. Dimmer lights are also a popular lighting solution so you can create the perfect atmosphere for those family movie nights, or set them atmospherically to enhance your beautiful decorations.

Soft furnishings and accessories are great way to complete the overall look and feel of your newly decorated living room. It allows you to add depth and colour and to create a more inviting and comfortable space. There are some fabulous cushions and throws available is a wide range of fabrics which are sure to create the perfect place to snuggle up on these cold evenings.

I hope this post has given you lots of ideas to help you create the perfect living room that you, your family and friends will enjoy spending many evenings in during Christmas and all year round.

Happy Decorating!
Neville.
