Spring/Summer 2012 Colour Influences

January 20, 2012
Just as fashion changes so do colour tastes and so I think now is a good time for me to introduce the Crown Spring/Summer 2012 Influences! Late last year I was part of the Crown Colour Panel and joined colourists from diverse backgrounds to define and predict the trends for Spring/Summer 2012. We created an exciting mixed palette of muted tones and acid brights that features all three brands under the Crown umbrella, Crown Paints, Sadolin and Sandtex – designed to meet any interior or exterior decorating need. For the next few weeks I will be taking you through some of the Crown Spring / Summer 2012 Influences and this week we are going to start with Modern Nostalgia.

The Modern Nostalgia palette contains pretty seaside pastels combined with modern angels and an art deco feel. The palette maintains a modern feel by introducing coolness to pastels and moving away from sweet shades. The sophisticated palette blends the traditional feel of the 1950’s and quaint seaside towns with clean lines and minimalist styling associated with a modern home.

More than mere nostalgia, the palette is a reinvention of the past where soft subtle shades like Cornish Cream from Sandtex Ultra Smooth range or Culture Cream from Crown’s Vintage Collection sit next to natural charcoal shades like exterior paints Evening Shadow or Gravel Garden.

You can use a range of shades from this palette to create an interior that will be soft, stylish and inviting. Bold shades like Copper Canyon from Crown’s Earthbalance range can be married with Pashmina from their Breatheasy range and Gossamer Blue from Sadolin to create a warm and colourful interior.

Updating the exterior of your home with paint is an increasing trend. Gone are the days when we accepted drab and dreary grey walls as concrete features of our back garden and to recognise this, Sandtex have created natural tones of deep charcoal in Evening Shadow and the lighter shade of Gravel Garden, together with the pretty pastel of Cornish Cream.

Colour is a very personal choice and it’s important to remember that when choosing colour schemes for the interior and exterior of your home. I love to look into colour schemes and designs from other eras as it can give some real inspiration to colour combinations. It’s all about individuality and what’s personal to you.

Happy decorating,
Neville
