The Alternative HeadboardJuly 14, 2010
Headboards play quite an important role in creating a finished look to a bedroom but quite often we come across rooms that don’t have headboards, be it space restrictions or cost issues, and it can often leave a room looking bare and unfinished. All is not lost however; as there are so many fabulous designs you can apply behind your bed to create the illusion of a headboard.
Painting a headboard design onto a wall is something interiors designers are beginning to use more and more, and not only are your options endless, but it is a relatively cheap method of introducing a much wanted design into your bedroom. I did a little research online and came across the most fabulous designs that can be applied to every style of bedroom but before I get to that, there are a few things you need to decide on first, such as the position of your bed. Some say the bed should be the first thing to greet you in a room but not all of us are that fortunate to be able to position our beds in this way due to the position of the door and even the windows. If you have space, try moving your bed around to see what position best suits the room. The next step is to decide what headboard design you would like to paint. The width of your bed will of course dictate what will work on your wall so make sure your bed is centred before you mark your wall. Painting your own headboard allows you to co-ordinate the entire design of your room. You might pick a theme from your most loved bedspread or a much loved piece of artwork and use this as inspiration. A headboard design may range from horizontal lines to floral prints or one of these elegant designs below.
