Tickled PinkApril 9, 2010
As I’ve mentioned, pink has been a popular bedroom colour for decades and has even been embraced as a colour for many bathrooms, but it’s often a forgotten colour when it comes to living room décor. When done tastefully, this colour can create a welcoming and comforting room which exudes relaxation. Colour psychology explains that pink is a truly tranquilizing colour so where better to use it than in the heart of the home.
Depending on the depth of the shade, many different looks can be achieved. A soft pink, such as Soft Passion in Crown’s Designer Collection range, is a subtle tone which can be revived through deep purples or even a touch of black giving a truly romantic and enriching colour scheme. This colour in a living room also works beautifully with white or cream to give a soothing atmosphere.
Couture is a lively pink from the Crown colours. Team this with Antique Cream, Wheatgrass or Mimosa to create an almost regal look. Cream furniture, with touches of olive green or beige on a backdrop of this pink can create a room which is both bright and welcoming.
I don’t have one particular favourite when it comes to pink, but if I did, Elegant Rose would be it! This shade from Crown’s Classic Collection is a cool sophisticated colour, perfect for any home. It works with fabulous greens such as Classic Tundra or Classic Portland and tans such as Classic Umber and Classic Buff. It is a simple way to inject colour into homes with a neutral and organic colour scheme.
Add a modern twist to pink with deeper colours. Smoulder from Crown is a cool deep shade of grey with which to paint a section of wall or a chimney breast. Teamed with Elegant Rose, these colours are a match made in heaven. With wooden floors or nude carpets, this combination really adds some class.
Pink also grabs attention in an eclectic-style living room. Get a modern and designer look with a mixture of pinks, greens, purples, greys or even orange. With the addition of abstract artwork or portraits, your living room will get that unique style. Add cushions and throws in a variety of colours and various patterns to complete the look.
Accessories such as a wrought iron table or candle holders; plants; antique or modern style vases; and dark oak furniture are all stylish against the right shade of pink. While it is not to everyone’s taste, pink is really a forgotten colour for living rooms, so introduce some touches to your room today. It is one colour that can change the look of your room in an instant with fabulous results.
Happy decorating!
