Working Nine to Five at home!November 17, 2010
Do you work from home? Oftentimes, people don’t take the time to create a functioning work space that suits their lifestyle. In order to be productive it is important to have a separate office area where you can dedicate your time and effort to your work. By allocating this space solely to your vocation you can prevent the inevitable mess from sprawling and taking over your home. There are a few handy hints and tips to follow when designing an office space at home. Start by choosing the colour scheme for your office. It is often suggested that green is the colour of creativity and therefore a great colour to use in your office. The Crown Classic Collection includes stylish green shades that are sure to get those creative juices flowing. Colours such as Elegant Chiffon and Elegant Jade are perfect for this type of space. If green is not a colour you would like to incorporate into your home then your best to stick to bright, airy colours such as blue or yellow. Home offices should be cheery and relaxing, these colours are also said to prevent tiredness. Avoid using bold patterns or loud wallpaper when decorating the walls of your office. These can clutter an office and create the illusion of a smaller space. The second item to think about for your home office is the furniture that you will need. You might like to revive an old piece of furniture such as a chair or desk as I have suggested in a previous blog. By choosing this option you can create a unique piece that is truly personal. Otherwise, why not try a department store such as Ikea or your local furniture warehouse for hardwearing, practical office furniture. In many homes the lack of space is a key issue in any office area. Overcome this concern by using furniture that is functional. Simple ideas such as using a rolling desk that slides away or a curved desk to fill corners are great ways of ensuring that all of the available space is utilised. Another example of this is to make your accessories practical aids for storage. Choose folders, baskets and other stationery items that slot into each other or into unused areas of the room. Look to buy accessories in vivid colours that will complement your colour scheme. Lighting and ventilation are also important elements to consider in an office. Offices should be bright and allow as much natural light into the room as possible. If this is not possible ensure that the room is well lit by a main bulb or series of lamps. Free standing lamps can be a feature in an office as well as a functional fixture. Ventilation is also crucial to an office. We have all worked in a stuffy office with no control over the room temperature, your home office is a chance to create an environment that you are comfortable in. Ensure that all windows can open and that there are no objects blocking the vents to the room. Happy Decorating,
