It seems that pink is something of a favourite with budding interior designers all over Ireland, as Crown Paints handed over a cheque for €10,000 to Action Breast Cancer, a programme of the Irish Cancer Society, as part of the Precious Pink paint initiative developed to support this incredibly worthwhile cause.

Speaking about this fantastic donation, Naomi Fitzgibbon, Action Breast Cancer said, “We’re really grateful for this donation. It is a new way for us to spread the message about breast cancer awareness and provide support, information and advice to people all over Ireland affected by breast cancer. It is so important to have great brands like Crown Paints behind us to enable us to continue to provide our life-saving work.”

PJ Gunn, managing director of Crown Paints said, “We’re all delighted to hand this cheque over and I would like to thank everyone that supported this project, both our retailers and all of our customers.  Action Breast Cancer is such a source of support to anyone facing this disease and we are really proud to have been involved with this charity.”

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in Ireland. Every year more than 2,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Ireland. The latest data available from the National Cancer Registry of Ireland shows that 2,838 new cases of breast cancer were diagnosed in 2008 (2,815 cases in females and 22 cases in males).  The latest data from the CSO shows that there were 739 deaths from breast cancer in 2008.
