Choosing which paint to use for wood & metal

Crown has a wide range of paints for wood and metal, each with their own set of unique benefits. This video will explain the features of each one, so you can find the right paint for the job whether you are painting skirting boards, doors, frames or radiators.

First decide on the finish that you want on your wood or metal work – either gloss which has a high sheen, satin which is more subtle and gives a muted, mid-sheen finish or eggshell which has a low sheen.

Gloss
Liquid gloss – for a confident decorator, this gives a high sheen professional finish with a solvent based gloss that is tough and durable

Solo gloss – time saving gloss with lots of pigments to do the job in one coat

Non-drip gloss – easy to apply gel like consistency which turns to liquid when used

Quick dry gloss – longer lasting whiteness and is water based so dries quicker

Satin
Solo satin – time saving satin with extra pigments to do the job in one coat

Non-drip satin – easy to apply with a gel consistency to reduce mess

Quick dry satin – longer lasting whiteness and is water based so dries quicker

Eggshell
Eggshell – low sheen finish and is solvent based which means it is durable and washable
