Charmingly rustic kitchen design

When you think of the word “rustic”, chances are that the countryside comes to mind. To us, an open fire and a cosy perch, surrounded by trees and wildlife, is the ultimate embodiment of the word “rustic.” Natural materials, neutral colours, and simple, practical furnishings are all part of this charming picture. However, you don’t have to live rurally in order to enjoy rustic style within your home. In fact, by following the suggestions below, you can incorporate it beautifully and effortlessly regardless of where your home is located!

Opt for wooden furnishings where possible: Wooden features are the ultimate rustic furnishings. Tables, chairs, cabinets, countertops, and floors are all great places to incorporate timber. However, when it comes to this style, not all wood is created equally. Use wood that is natural in colour and, if you want to colour it, avoid going too bold. Instead, enhance and protect it with a stain and/or varnish. Embrace its natural beauty and you’ll be well on your way to creating a ravishing rustic retreat!

Embrace stone features: Like wood, stone is another natural material that will boost your kitchen’s rustic appeal. Feature walls, floors, splash backs and fireplaces are all great areas to mix in some stone. Stone will add interest and bolster the country feel you’re attempting to create.

Install a fireplace or wood burning stove: A fireplace, or wood burning stove, will not only feel great and keep you warm—it will look great too. There’s nothing like an open fire to chase away the chill and add ambiance to a space. Having a fireplace in your kitchen will make it cosier and will surely help to make the kitchen a favourite destination within the house! If you don’t have the requirements for a fireplace/wood burning stove, you can still achieve that softly lit glow through candles!

Choose simple accessories: A rustic kitchen isn’t wrought with bits and bobbles. Its accessories are largely purposeful and primitive, and revolve around items that are already found in your kitchen. For example, a hanging pot rack is not only useful—it looks wonderfully rustic. Additionally, an open, door-less cupboard or shelf that displays all your serving dishes will become an interesting (as well as helpful!) feature.

We love the rustic style, and we believe that the kitchen is the ideal place to incorporate it! Add some rustic charm to your kitchen with the above recommendations.
