Tempting textures to try this season

It’s the season of cosiness! The days are shorter and by the time 6 o’clock rolls around, it’s time to curl up on the couch and unwind. Part of creating the ideal atmosphere for total rest and relaxation is through textures. Textures can add depth and interest to your space as well as softness (which is especially vital this time of the year!). The below textures are ideal for the winter months. Just be warned—you may have trouble leaving your home!

Boucle: Boucle is a type of fabric with a surface of uneven loops and curls. It’s become extremely stylish in different types of clothing and accessories, and is often used in coats, jumpers, scarves, and hats. Not only do we love to wear boucle—we love using it to accessorise our spaces! Try boucle in blankets, pillows and rugs for a chic update to your home, just in time for the holidays!

Silk: The shiny, luminous quality of silk makes it especially festive during the winter months. It’s eye-catching nature and oh-so-soft texture means it looks and feels fantastic! We love silk in jewel tones, such as emerald, amethyst, sapphire, ruby and citrine. We also think it looks excellent (especially this time of the year) in gold and silver for a metallic sheen. Silk works wonderfully for pillows, curtains, and duvet covers. If you’re feeling especially luxurious, try silk sheets!

Velvet: We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention velvet in our seasonal textural line-up! This plush fabric comes in every colour under the sun, and looks great as curtains, furniture (velvet sofa, anyone?), and pillows. Opt for dark velvets for a sumptuous look that’ll be the envy of all your holiday visitors!

Spackle: Did you know that texture isn’t just for your furnishings and accessories? That’s right, even your walls can enjoy a pick-me-up! You can easily add texture to your walls with a spackle finish. Spackling your walls will give your space that extra interest and really make your colour pop! In addition to spackle, you can add texture to your walls in the form of embossed paint rollers. Call into your local Crown Paints Stockist for tips and everything you need to get you started!

Faux fur: Winter calls for soft surroundings, and faux fur is one of our favourite textures to snuggle up with. In our opinion, no winter home is complete without a bit of faux fur. We especially love faux fur blankets—these top our cold weather must have lists (if you own one, you’ll know why!). Drape your faux fur blanket across your furniture for a look that’s as tempting as it is chic.
