Beat the Winter Blues

Colourful Design Strategies for a Cosy February

With February here, the winter blues may sometimes feel overwhelming. The chill in the air and the shorter days might leave you longing for the cheerfulness of the warmer months. However, with a few strategic design strategies, you can bring colour and vibrancy to your interiors, transforming them into cosy spaces.

Choose a warm colour palette: Certain colours are known to uplift moods and call to mind positive emotions.  Embrace the warmth of reds, oranges, and yellows to add a cozy ambiance to your space. These make great backdrops to any room where you want to inject liveliness- especially kitchens, living rooms, and dining rooms. We love the colours Tufted Kilim, Cushion Craze, and Yarn.

If painting your walls is too much of a commitment, consider incorporating these shades via your accessories such as cushions, throws, or artwork. Pair with neutral furnishings for a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere or combine with other bright colours for a dreamy maximalist look.

Mix different patterns together: Bring playfulness into any room by mixing and matching patterns in complementary colors. From classic stripes and timeless herringbones to modern geometrics or whimsical florals, combining textures and prints will bring depth and dimension to your interiors and make for a very interesting look! You can also paint these patterns on your walls easily with some stencils and a bit of patience!

Have fun with textures: Working with texture really helps when trying to create a cosy atmosphere within the home. Try incorporating soft and visually interesting materials like wool knits, velvet, boucle, chenile, and faux fur. In addition to adding visual interest to your space, these sumptuous materials will invite people to touch and interact with them, promoting a sense of comfort and relaxation. You can also bring texture to your walls with various paint techniques or formulas. CRAFTED™ by Crown Luxurious Suede Textured Matt Emulsion provides an enriching, suede textured finish that creates a soft, natural brushed effect on your walls.

Personalise your artwork: Inject your interiors with personality and warmth by choosing artwork that is meaningful to you. Whether it’s photographs from your travels, illustrations of your favourite things, pieces by an artist you admire, or simply paintings featuring colours you like, art should be special to you and this will help bring character to your home.

Be thoughtful with your lighting: Lighting is a powerful tool when it comes to setting the mood of a room. Create a cosy ambiance with warm, ambient lights placed strategically throughout the room. Turn to string lights, table lamps, or candles to bring a soft, inviting glow.

By using the above strategies within your home, you’ll be well on your way to designing a cosy, delightful retreat you’ll enjoy all winter long—and beyond! For even more home inspiration, visit our blog or call into your local Crown Paints stockist!
