Colour Insights

Our Trend Forecast for 2024 and Beyond

Colour possesses the remarkable power to transform the mood of a room and impact our feelings. The role of colour in our surroundings extends far beyond simple aesthetics; it profoundly shapes our mood, emotional state, and overall well-being. With its unique energy and psychological impact, each colour has the capacity to turn any space into an environment that can elevate, calm, invigorate, or console us.

“At Crown, we understand how powerful and transformative colour can be, which is why we’re so excited to unveil our latest Colour Insights,” says Crown Colour Consultant Kathryn Lloyd.  “We’ve spent countless hours over the past 12 months, drawing from our collective experience as consultants, designers and specialists, to develop this collection and have found inspiration in lots of weird and wonderful places to bring to life the palettes you see today.”

We're extremely excited to unveil our Colour Insights for the years 2024 and 2025—a meticulously selected array of colours and patterns, driven by worldwide trends, set to shape future design directions. This collection, crafted by our esteemed team of colour and interior design experts, reflects the current trends in lifestyle, fashion, and the environment. Our Colour Insights for 2024/2025 introduces four unique palettes: Community, Solutions, Pivot, and Escape. Designed to stir emotions and spark creativity, each palette combines various shades and looks, enabling both DIY fans and interior decorators to breathe new life into any space, inside or out.

This collection also serves as a practical tool for creating colour harmony within a space. Each scheme has primary focal shades paired with complementary accent colours to give depth and dimension. Below, we’ll guide you through each palette, highlighting its unique qualities.

Crown Colour Insights - Community - featuring Bare Concrete, Genuine, Wave After Wave, Le Petit Palais, Heartsoul, Yarn

Community: We are deeply committed to the idea that a welcoming and carefully crafted space can act as a foundation for fostering community and unity, enhancing connections, and instilling a feeling of belonging among those who share it. This collection, inspired by the principles of inclusivity, self-expression, and identity, injects life into any setting by embracing bold design choices, such as vibrant colours, stark contrasts, and the use of colour blocking.

“Community emphasises the sense of belonging and celebrates design for the greater good, either through ingenious solutions to improve the lives of many, or installations enlivening communal spaces with colourful creations,” says Crown Colour Specialist Jemma Saunders.

Crown Colour Insights - Solutions - featuring Leatherbound, Ceramic Kiln, Hare, Open Water, Curiosity, Soft Scribbles, Soft Grey Suede Textured, Trailing Plant, Enchanted Ivy

Solutions: Nature is a great teacher for colour and design, showing us how to achieve harmony, balance, and appreciate diversity. By looking at nature, we can learn to use its wide range of colours and patterns in our work, which helps make our designs more lively, eco-friendly, and in tune with our environment. The Solutions palette is a good example of this, taking cues from nature in every way, including its variety, textures, and flaws.

“In the process of finding solutions to many of our environmental problems, we sometimes stumble upon new, interesting shades and colour combinations,” remarks Crown Senior Designer Justyna Korczynska, “Created at random by different recycling processes and often found in second-life composite materials. Solutions embraces these accidental colour palettes.”

Inspired by upcycling and a respect for nature, this palette includes a mix of bold and gentle colours, similar to the surprising combinations often seen in recycled materials. It combines warm terracotta with softer blues, greens, and neutrals, and adds pops of brighter blue and green, reminiscent of sea and river glass.

Crown Colour Insights - Pivot - featuring Work Of Art, Genuine, Delicate Touch, Saddle Stitch, Market Day, One Of A Kind

Pivot: Drawing on historical influences and prioritising craftsmanship can lead the way in modern design. This approach encourages us to pay closer attention to traditional skills and details, improving our spaces and promoting a more thoughtful way of creating. The Pivot collection aims to provide comfort by relying on these principles, offering an alternative to the fast-paced consumerism culture we see today.

“I can see Pivot being used to create incredibly warm and comforting environments, reclaiming both the materials and the moment, with a focus on calm and wellbeing – a place to simply slow down,” remarks Hannah Warren, Interior Designer at DVB Designs.

Pivot emphasises human connection, ethical practices, and a revival of time-honoured traditions. This palette blends calming, earthy tones such as tans and warm neutrals with blue-greys, perfectly complementing items that are hand-made, reclaimed, or refurbished, aiming to bring a sense of peace and authenticity to any space.

Crown Colour Insights - Escape - featuring Sow Good, Ceramic Kiln, Cross Stitch, Market Day, Overjoyed, Ivy Grey, Poetry

Escape: The Escape palette mixes mint green and warm yellow with soft pink shades, creating a playful and nostalgic feel. Inspired by the colours found in old vacation photos, keepsakes, and timeless movie sets, it provides a whimsy pastel backdrop for any room.

“Break from the mould and let your creativity run free, using these saturated pastels to envelop spaces with joy,” says Korczynska. “Pairing vintage teal and retro minty green with sweet pinks and faded red, with accents of joyful yellow, brings playfulness and beauty for a fully immersive, sensory effect.”
